Qualified Practitioner (Essay) Route - Essay Submission
Before submitting an essay
Before submitting an essay, it is recommended that you:
- review the Essay Requirements and Essay Writing Hints, Suggestions and Resources.
- reread your essay to make sure it is coherent and achieves your stated purpose. Does it satisfy the Essay Requirements? Have you taken advantage of the Essay Writing Hints and Suggestions?
- correct any spelling and grammatical errors and ensure it complies with the format requirements.
- make sure you have included all appropriate footnotes and a bibliography listing all case references and source materials.
Submitting your essay
Essays can only be accepted if they:
- are between 2,500 and 3,000 words in length, not including footnotes or other references
- are submitted in English or French
- show your student number but not your name. This will ensure anonymity in the marking process
- do not display any word processing markers that might identify you or your firm
- are typewritten and double spaced on one side of the page only, with 1 inch margins
- have numbered pages
- list the source materials
- are saved as an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.doc) file
- include payment of the relevant fee
- are submitted electronically via the Essay Submission Form, completed as instructed.
 Please note that in order to access the Essay Submission Form, you must sign in to the Member Site. You will be asked to sign in after clicking on the Essay Submission Form. If you have not yet registered on STEP Canada's Member Site, you will have to register first.
Copyright
Although you will retain copyright of the essay, STEP Canada reserves the right to publish the essay on the Members Only section of the STEP Canada website.
President's Prize
STEP Canada awards the President's Prize for exceptional essays. Winners may be invited to submit an article based on the winning essay to a STEP publication, such as STEP Inside or The Journal.
